Park Place,
the next phase of SmartVMC, SmartCentres REIT's 100-acre master-planned city
centre in Vaughan's new downtown hub, is now open in one of Canada's fastest-growing
regions. The two-tower proposal, which would be 48 and 56 storeys tall, will be
built on the northeast corner of Highway 7 and Commerce Street, near SmartVMC's
9-acre park. Building on SmartVMC's transit-oriented, pedestrian-friendly
development, these mixed-use towers add to the dynamic community blooming in
Vaughan's burgeoning downtown.
The two
buildings, designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, will include approximately
1,100 residential units and over 10,000 square feet of retail space at the base.
The south tower is 56 stories tall, while the north tower is 48 stories tall,
with a 3-story pedestal connecting the two towers. Because of their proximity
to the park and the Highway 7 corridor, the towers will afford unimpeded views
of the whole GTA. A north-south pedestrian mews runs along the east perimeter
of the site, connecting Highway 7 to New Park Place, as well as large pathways
and public space.
The proposed
construction is just across from the SmartVMC master plan's central park, which
is 9 acres in size. The park, designed by Claude Cormier + Associés, will have
a sunken lawn, a children's play area, and a dog park in the centre, thus
transforming it into a giant backyard for homeowners. The park's first phase
will begin construction later this year.
